The down the lane.” The truth behind

The True Story Behind Baa Baa Black SheepNursery rhymes have been in existence for a very long time in history. Many people read these what seems to be innocent little rhymes to their children. But to many of those don’t know what are the real meanings of nursery rhymes. Many are based on historical events that can be gruesome or horrific if people truly knew what they mean. One of those nursery rhymes that is based on true events is Baa Baa Black Sheep. In the beginning of the nursery rhyme of Baa Baa Black Sheep, it seems to be someone asking if this other has any wool, as the other person replies that he has 3 full bags of wool. Then the person with the wool tells the other person that one bag is for “the King, one for the Dame, and the last one for the kid that lives down the lane.” The truth behind the meaning of Baa Baa Black Sheep is the historical event in England during the 16th century. The economy was huge on wool and anyone that had a farm, would raise sheep in order to produce wool. After 1272, Edward I returned to England from his crusading, he raised taxes in order to pay for his military. There are many connections that can be found between the rhyme and the event. The reference,’ One for the master, and one for the dame, and one for the little boy Who lives down the lane,’ is of that the price of wool. One-third would go to the King, two-third to the Dame or the church, and none would go to the kid. This nursery rhyme is a showing of how cruel it was to be a hard-worker compare to the upper class. The article “Kentucy school shooting suspect charged with murder” by John Bacon and Justin Sayers was published by USA TODAY. In the article, it talks about the recent shooting that happened ay a Kentucky school. The suspect that did this shooting is being charged with murder and attempted murder after killing 2 students and injuried 18 students, many were gunwounds. It then talks about some of the students that survived and told that the person that did this was not everyone thought to do such a thing. The suspect is being charged right now, but many are in  debate over if he should go into adult court. If this article was put into a nursery rhyme similar to Baa Baa Black Sheep it would look like:Sad sad Kentucky shooterDo you have any charges?Yes I do, Yes I do,Three bad onesOne for murder,One for assualt,And one for attempt murderOn those poor poor studentsNursery rhymes have been in history since they have been in existence and will continue to be passed down. The truth behind them may be change to get a positive view on them, but the truth behind them will always be remember for those that were there. Neither should future generations forget. Nursery rhymes will stay with us till they fade away, but the truth will never be forgotten.Works CitedHicks, Mark, et al. “Kentucky School Shooting Scene: ‘No One Screamed’.” USA Today, Gannett Satellite Information Network, 24 Jan. 2018, www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/01/24/kentucky-school-shooting-scene-no-one-screamed/1061055001/.Jack, Albert. “The Secret Life of Mother Goose: Discover the History of NurseryRhymes.”Babble, Babble, 13 Nov. 2012, www.babble.com/toddler/the-secret-meaning-to-nursery-rhymes-pop-goes-the-weasel/.
