Digital art uses digital technology in acreative and practice use. When the digital age began around the 1950 it was onlya matter of time before artists would use the technologies for their owncreative use. As with all new means, artists began to use these brave newinnovations of society, including television, the introduction of the pcomputer, the availability of audio and visual software, and finally theinternet, into works of their own. Although digital art is not recognized as a clearmovement, we will still continue to see it unfold into a, a bigger and changinglandscape, making itself a substitute to the traditional means of art makingfor a post-millennial society.

 Main Points ·      Digital art made a connection between artistsand engineers/scientists, which revealed the influences between art andtechnology. Artists started to investigate these skills, they were not just usingthe new medium but were they also asking people to suggest new things. ·      Digital art helped the artist’s gain new abilitiesand not just the normal traditional used materials, this giving them new skillsfrom the electronic technologies to use in their work. Instead of using brushesand paint, artists could now paint with light, pixels and sound. Instead of usingpaper, artists could use digital imagery or computer-generated graphics.Instead of using, canvas, they could create graphic works for projection on a screenor via multimedia projection.

 ·      Digital Art has changed the wat that art could be made, viewed and dispensed,though some digital art tends to be shown in the traditional style of galleriesand museums for viewing, especially for work that requires machinery or complexcomponents. but usually now Digital Art work can be seen via TV, computermonitors, Internet or Social media. This has made it a lot easier for artiststo get themselves noticed without the help from big museums or people.

           Art and Technology, TheBeginningIn 1967, a group was made by engineers named Fred Waldhauerand Billy Kluver, and artists Robert Whitman and Robert Rauschenberg. Thisgroup was then called “EAT” which was shortened from (Experiments in Art andTechnology) and its goal was encourage the partnership between art and theworld of technology.They created systemsand performances which involved electronic systems, including electricalcircuity, video projection, Doppler sonar and wireless sound projection.

Thiswas a good step as it gave a good base for this type of art which contained anddiscovered the technological progress.The EAT experiments signifiedthe connection between artists and technology and this would have neverhappened without them.The first well knownpiece was made by Bell Labs where the creator of EAT Billy Kluver worked. Thepiece was made by Kenneth C. Knowlton who was a computer graphics specialist.His work was a photograph of a young nude woman and he turned the image intocomputer pixels.    ­­The Beginnings of theInternetWhenthe internet was a big hit around the 1990s, this was a big deal for everyone,but it also helped a lot of Digital artists become more skilled and helpingthem become more noticeable.

It allowed artists to begin learning new mediumswhich involved combing words, images, audio and video files.The internet helped create a new type ofmovement in some people’s eyes which was different from Digital Art, this wascalled Internet Art or Net.Art. But it was usually linked with the Digital artmovement which was getting bigger and bigger because of the advantages of thenew technology which was being created and developed.The internet was a great help for people tospeak and communicate easier which allowed the artists to come together andeasily create work all from their own computer screen which was impossible forartists in the past as they could never communicate or interact with otherartists around the world..                                                                                                                                                                                                              Exploring the InternetWhen the internetstarted becoming bigger and bigger a lot of artists used this to further theirwork so that they could become more noticeable or viral in internet terms.

Kevin Marks work is created by using a 3Dprinter which is easily setup and a lot easier than doing a normal sculpture asit is a lot easier to carve the form in a computer program than using clay orcement.    Many digital sculptures can even still be used as workingtechnology as seen by Trevor Paglen and Jacob Applebaums work “Autonomy Cube(2014) which is both a sculptural object and an open access Wi-Fi hotspot,while  Computer Generated ImageryWhencomputers first came about, artists used the computers programming andtechnology to help with their work and to maybe update it to make it lookbetter. Fifty Years later, when computer graphicsoftware started being sold to the public, artists started using these programsfrom the advertising and graphic design industries, allowing them to make theirown work Joseph Nechvatal, who is an artist who creates computer-assistedpaintings, animations and custom-designed computer viruses. His early pieces from1986, Nechvatal has been fascinated with the relationship between realityand virtuality.  Art on ScreenMost digital Art is usually only able seen on ascreen or monitor, meaning that if there wasn’t this sort of technology in theworld you would have never been able to see this type of work. Artists now puttheir work on the internet for people to view and can even now be used on YouTubeto showcase art. A YouTube named Petra Cortright uses this to showcase heranimated graphics.

Petra Cortright    Interactive DigitalInstallationsInteractivityis a big part of Digital Art, This type of art lets the viewers feel the full experience and willhave you thinking you’re in a real-life experience even though it isn’t.In 2012 a group called Random International madea piece named “Rain Room” an experimental installation which would have rainwater would fall on you, this was only imaginable because of the 3D trackersthat would go about following the person, which had been programmed to stop thefall of the rain water wherever the person was standing, this meaning the personcould feel and experience a rain storm without ever getting wet.  which would have been impossible without theassistance of Digital technology.The piece encouraged viewers to consider therelationship between Man, Nature and Machine. Internet as MediumDigital Art tools can be accessedby anyone not that every person in the world can have a computer at their homeallowing artists to make a new environment within the art scene. This let theartists to be able to bypass the museums and showcase their work online andgiving them an even bigger exposure to people around the world.some artists even used internet as a marketingtool to upload projects on their own websites, one artist AndrewBenson is a glitch artist, live-visuals performer, and software creator, he isalso a teacher. His works allow website visitors to interact in his web-basedwork Bouncy Gradient,you can add as many jagged,rainbow-tinted shapes as you want, and watch as they twist and rebound offof each other and against your browser’s edges  Interactive technologies has allowed socialmedia and user generated content to be shared easily and people to be able toshowcase and edit work in so many different ways.

 My Favourite DigitalArtists & Digital Work Addie Wagenknecht Addie Wagenknecht, “Asymemetric Love Number2”, 2013   Addie Wagenknechts workexplores the tension between expression and technology, she likes to create herwork with forms of hacking and sculpture, she uses drones, paint and circuitboards to create some of her work to make people more aware of their digitalsurroundings She has been featured in many museums in France, Austria, Englandand Netherlands. she has also featured in magazines and books, some of the mostfamous one would be Time, Wall Street Journal, Vanity fair and the New YorkJournal. This Piece from AddieWagenknecht was created from Security cameras and made in the shape of achandelier. She later sold this piece for $16,00 ad a auction called Watershedpaddles ON.     Phillip David Stearns Phillip David Stearns, “Fragmented Memory”,   Glitch art is something that happens when you make amistake or a software messes up, it has started to become more used in art.

NewYork artist Phillip David Stearns has used digital glitches in his work and hasmade them look amazing. He does this by converting file formats and runningdata through custom filters, he turns these images into pixelated explosionsand then turns them into blankets and rugs, bringing his work to life.
