Spoken by Juliet, Romeo and Juliet Act 2 Scene 5 Essay

In this scene, Romeo and Juliet are at Capulet’s house. Juliet waits for the Nurse to come back with a message from Romeo. She worries that they might somehow have missed each other. When the Nurse comes back, she refuses to tell Juliet anything and complains about her aching back. This is an old game between the Nurse and Juliet: they love teasing each other.

The Nurse keeps refusing to tell Juliet what Romeo said until Juliet can’t stand it anymore. Finally, the Nurse gives in and tells Juliet to run to Friar Laurence’s cell (a “cell” is just a room) where Romeo is waiting so they can get hitched. Before the scene ends, the Nurse says she’ll “fetch a ladder” for Romeo to climb up so the lovers can spend their wedding night together.

The first literary term I found was, “Which ten times faster glide than the sun’s beams, Driving back shadows over louring hills:” Which is a hyperbole and personification. Another literary I found was, “doves draw love,” and it’s personification.Cupid wings,” is allusion and metaphoric. A simile would be, “She would be as swift in motion as a ball. ” The last literary term I found which is simile is “old folks, many feign as they were dead; unwieldy, slow, heavy and pale as lead. ” This scene helped me see many imagery and literary terms. For imagery, I used clock, love’s heralds, sun’s beams, shadows, hills, doves, cupid, sun, blood, ball, old folks, dead, slow, heavy, and lead.

For each one, I drew or printed it out on the collage I made. I did the most creativity I could.
