The American Revolution was a war forindependence that started out as a Civil War then became an internationalconflict. The Military Order of the Purple Hearts is an Organization that helpsout wounded military men and women that were in combat.

ConflictThe American Revolution, also known as the U.S. War ofIndependence, started in 1775 and ended in 1783. This war happened because ofconflicts between residents of Great Britain’s 13 North American colonies andthe colonial government, which represented the British crown. Tensions beganbefore summer in 1775, when then British government raised revenue by taxingusing the Stamp act of 1765 and the Tea act of 1773. Protesting colonists,who resented their lack of representationof the highest legislative authority inBritain, which is Parliament and demanded the same rights as other Britishsubjects. Colonial resistance led to the Boston Massacre in 1770 (History.comStaff, pg.

1). While consignees in Charleston, New York, and Philadelphiarejected tea shipments, merchants in Boston refused to surrender to Patriotpressure. On the night of December 16, 1773, Samuel Adams and the Sons ofLiberty boarded three ships in the Boston harbor and threw 342 chests of teaoverboard.

This resulted in the passage of the punishing Coercive Acts in 1774and pushed the two sides closer to war (History.com, pg.1).  Franceentered the American Revolution on the side of the colonists in 1778, turningwhat had essentially been a civil war into an international conflict. AfterFrench assistance helped the Continental Army force the British surrender atYorktown, Virginia, in 1781, the Americans had effectively won theirindependence, though fighting would not formally end until 1783(History.comStaff, pg.1).    OrganizationTheMilitary Order of the Purple Hearts(MOPH) is Chartered by Congress in 1958, TheMilitary Order of the Purple Heart is composed of military men and women whoreceived the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat.

Although ourmembership is restricted to the combat wounded, we support all veterans andtheir families with a myriad of nation-wide programs by Chapters and NationalService Officers. The MOPH membership, National Service Program, LadiesAuxiliary, and the purple heart foundation are all a part of MOPH.  (chartered). The National Service Programprovides assistance to all veterans involving the Veterans Administration. TheLadies Auxiliary has its own membership and administration works with MOPH inassisting, comforting, and aiding veterans and their families.

The Purple HeartFoundation which has donation options, like car, clothes and money donations,has a scholarship program called MOPH scholarship program.
