braking (RBS) is a type of kinetic energy recovering system that is able to
convert the kinetic energy of a moving object to energy that can be stored to
slow the vehicle down. It is mostly applied into hybrid cars, electric cars or trains
nowadays. The regenerative braking can also increase the fuel efficiency of the
vehicle.1 In
the vehicle, the regenerative braking systems are installed on the drive train
of the vehicle or installed on the drive wheels. The drive wheels restrain the
motion of the wheels by using the mechanical torque and using the magnetic
field. Thus, allowing energy to be generated under the brake. Other than the
friction of the brakes is wasting energy in the form of heat energy. This idea
of the brake can take the kinetic energy that it absorbs and turn it into
potential energy for later use has been around since the 1800s. One of the
early idea of this systems, is that they install springs types of regenerative
brake systems on the front of the wheels of the bicycle.

RBS are implemented to vehicles today
because of the many advantages of the RBS. The RBS helps to reduce wear and
increase efficiency of the vehicles brakes. When the motor is not receiving any
power from the battery, it starts to resist the turning of the wheel, thus
capturing the energy of the motion just like a generator and it can generate
the energy back to the battery. In a conventional mechanical brake, decreasing
the wear and by increasing the brakes life is not viable. This will reduce the
use of the brake. Other than that, hybrid and full electric vehicles produce
less to non-carbon dioxide gas emissions to the environment. In addition to
this, the RBS will also help in fuel economy in hybrid vehicles as they can
recharge the battery when it is needed to. The RBS still has its downs, when
driving in a busy city. The driver will spend some good amount of time braking.
The vehicle will use up quite some fuel in the city for each kilometre it travels
than on a highway. This is because of the law of thermodynamics, that
inefficiency come from heat generation. When braking the brake disc and brake
pad will produce heat. That heat will disperse into the surrounding. Moreover,
heat energy has higher entropy meaning it is less ordered.
