Proposal for Automated Speed Radars for North Luzon Expressway I. INTRODUCTION 1. 1 Purpose This document purposes an automated method teaching the speed violators at North Luzon Expressway. The automation system is necessary to easily detect those violators who are going beyond the speed limit and to improve the security in NLEX. 1. 2 Background The North Luzon Expressway or NLEX runs a total distance of 84 kilometers from Balintawak, Quezon City to Sta. Ines, Pampanga. The expressway has 15 exits and interchanges. There were many instances of accidents occurred in NLEX. Many of them were speed violators.

We know that over speeding of vehicles in NLEX is prohibited but some did. In this automation, series of speed violations can not only be normalized but it can be turned off. In the past few years, MNTC or Manila North Tollways Corporation uses speed guns for monitoring the speed of vehicles passing NLEX. By implementing the Automated Speed Radars, the speed of vehicles can be easily monitored since these are automatic not manual like the speed guns. Every time we travel from Metro Manila to Tarlac, we only see a number of security patrols rounding NLEX. Only few of them are actually rounding the vicinity.

Because of that, security in NLEX is questionable. By making NLEX secured, we propose the Automated Speed Radars to be approved. 1. 3 Scope This proposal addresses only the implementation of Automated Speed Radars for NLEX in support of its costs and materials, and resources. This proposal does not include other graphics, modeling, and analysis tasks. II. DISCUSSION 2. 1 Approach We propose to the Manila North Tollways Corporation or MNTC the Automated Speed Radars for the North Luzon Expressway composed of a Doppler radar with a Full Frame 360° View Camera and a Speed Radar Program.

Minimalized Doppler radars provide an excellent detection of the speed of a vehicle. It beams a radio wave at the vehicle, and then gathers the vehicle’s speed by measuring the Doppler effect-moderated change in the reflected wave’s frequency. It directs alarm to the main source/computer whenever it receives a speed that violates the speed limit. The Full Frame 360° View Camera has an auto-recording program necessary to receive data at the right and at the right place. It can also automatically take a snap shot to the vehicle that exceeds the speed limit.

The Speed Radar Program calibrates the connectivity of the radars and logs data taken by the Doppler radars and cameras. It will also alarm the headquarters to chase the speed violators. 2. 2 Result The Minimalized Doppler radar will serve as the main speed sensor and the speed data gatherer. It is necessary to automate the speed detection in NLEX. The Full Frame 360° View Camera will serve as the eye of the main source/computer as well as the headquarters. These two will transmit its data to the Speed Radar Program. Whenever there’s a high speed vehicle running, the Speed Radar Program will alarm the headquarters to hold the violator. . 3 Statement of the Work To achieve the goals of this proposal, the following tasks will be accomplished. Task 1: Procure the necessary equipment that will be used; unpack, assemble and transport. (48 hours) Task 2: Install in the given places. Check if there are damaged radars; check the places of the radars that were installed if it’s in the right alignment; properly adjust the cable wires. (72 hours) Task 3: Install the radar program, and calibrate the connectivity of the radars to the main source/computer. (10 hours) Task 4: Simulate and test the automated speed radars. (14 hours) III. RESOURCES . 1 Personnel We will manage the assembly and the transport of every Automated Speed Radars. Technicians from MNTC will supervise the installation and maintenance of the radars along NLEX. Simulation and testing of the speed radars will be managed by us, the staffs of MNTC, and some technicians. Installation of the Speed Radar Program will be installed in the main source or mother computer by the programmers of MNTC. 3. 2 Facilities and Equipment For the assembly of the Automated Speed Radars, we include suitable space. 5F 15B Building C has the required access and is available for this project.

For 84 kilometers, there will be two radars in each kilometer. This estimate includes 48 hours to assemble, and transport the equipment the equipment; 72 hours to install all ASRs and its connection; 10 hours to install the radar program, and calibrate the connectivity of the radars to the main source/computer; and 14 hours to Simulate and test the automated speed radars. V. CONCLUSION . 1 Summary The proposed Automated Speed Radars automation will provide a major impact on the security of North Luzon Expressway and for the drivers that is subsequent the rules of NLEX. The radars will be running 24/7 and it will be maintained by the employees of Manila North Tollways Corporation. The quality of the radar will avert numerous accidents in the area within its jurisdiction; it will also help discover unconscious drivers to know the speed limit given by NLEX. In fact, the proposed automation will be positioned exactly at the right position for it to detect speeding or over speeding cars at the right spot.
