“People diseases that mankind faces. My summer project

“People say we are playing god.My answer is: if we don’t play god, who will?”This was the quote written by James D.Watson(One of the co-discoverers of the double helical structure of DNA) truly encapsulates the power of biotechnology and it’s far-reaching applications which can revolutionize the world.I’ve always been fascinated by the enigma of life, and as I learnt more and more about it, my interest grew much more. Studying diseases like cancer has been of huge interest to me not just because my people have acquired this disease and it has no cure as of now but the very nature of cancer cells that make them immortal and create mutation that makes it resistant to treatment. Also, as I learnt more about the cancer cells like HeLa cells, it increased my interest many folds.I am a curious being with a knack of learning and the ability of critical thinking as I’m the person in the classroom who asks a lot of questions from professors and teachers on many topics and critically analyse new concepts taught to me.I am thus self-motivated to pursue research.During my undergraduate studies in Biotechnology (H) at St. Xavier’s College which is one of the best in my states ,I have been exposed to subjects like biochemistry ,molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, enzymology, bioinformatics etc. which gave me new concepts and ideas about wide range of topics including drug development and drug development. We had practical classes almost every day on different subjects where I learnt many techniques like PCR, DNA isolation from various sources, microbiology experiments, plant tissue culture, SDS-PAGE, Chromatography, gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, production of ethanol, amylase and lactic acid, ELISA to mention a few.During my second year, i did a short training program Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG), Namkum which is research institute under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on “Production, Processing and Utilization of natural resins and gums.” which gave me broader ideas into how plant and insect’s extracts and secretions can be used as medicine and therapeutics.I also attended 104th Indian Science Congress where 9 Nobel laureates and more than 200 scientists from all over the world attended where I learnt more about CRISPR/Cas9, Human microbiome and Nanobiotechnology and how it can be used for curing the deadliest diseases that mankind faces. My summer project at NTHRYS biotech labs, Hyderabad was on the topic “Investigation of the association of XRCC1 codon 399 Polymorphisms in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients” as very few papers were published on this topic and none were on the south Indian population. I chose this topic so that we could learn something new and not just repeat what was already done as most people did. I would like to pursue my masters in molecular biotechnology from your from your prestigious university which is one best in the world and is widely known for its research.Since your university is well equipped with world-class laboratories, research facilities and highly qualified professors it will help me in learning cutting-edge techniques in biotechnology so that I am able to help develop new therapies for cancer and other diseases that afflict mankind.I would also like to learn cutting-edge technologies that are developed recently like CRISPR/Cas9 which is only possible in a world-class facility like yours. The master’s program also includes many research internships it would be very useful for my further studies and will help me in pursuing PhD. The University of Bonn has an excellent international reputation where a lot of research is being pursued, I would like to join your university. I am eagerly awaiting admission from your esteemed university for my future endeavours in the field of molecular biotechnology and gaining far greater knowledge and giving back to the world by doing some valuable piece of research.
