New Century Learning CommunitiesUs –Based Private Voluntary Organization: Religious and Secular Prov Engauged in International Relief and Development.            This is an organization registered with the federal government which is a volunteer organization dealing with relief and development both in America and overseas.

It is classified into 14 religious categories.            The term POV means ‘private voluntary organization’ refer to non profit organization. The term was coined by John Yulinski in 1970s that was at the moment the director of the organization.-USAID.This organization was mainly formed for the purpose of donating relief food and initiating development projects in overseas.

This included African countries and other countries found outside America which might be undergoing difficulties (Rachel 26).            They took part in the distribution of relief food so as to fight poverty in various countries facing food crisis and other related problems. The organization involved different religious groups and also secular groups. Secular groups are the non-religious organizations.The private organization is funded by philanthropic organizations, corporations and individuals.

After they have funded the organization then it is upon the NGOS to find a way of distributing food to the needy countries.            Their main concern was to find a common working ground and guiding principles on ways to identify people in need so that they are helped through community-based organizations which are Christian based so that it is done in a religious way to promote equality. They wanted to be really efficient in their work. Most of the members who were working group would further go into facilitating the participation and funding of faith- based organizations or establishing further safeguards although they faced many financial challenges they opted to  do their best in order to accomplish their mission. For them to counter these challenges they proposed 38 recommendations and five general propositions which actually fostered prosperity in their work and easened it as was proposed by ‘Thestatement of that earlier Working Group — Finding Common Ground — was issued in January 2002,’(Daniel  32).            Some of these recommendations included: calling for justice so that doors of opportunities would be opened for all children of God so as to increase opportunities for all the needy people. Another proposal was that of clarifying the status quo and raising issues on current legislative proposals so that any debate concerning government faith based organization could be more fact –based so as to avoid any assumption. Also in place was to identify areas that needed much assistance e.

g. children and youth affairs, drugs and alcohol treatment, cubing homelessness and hunger. Besides there was also the proposal of identifying potential areas of agreement based on how to increase public and private funding of faith -based organizations in ways that are both effective and constitutional so as to avoid conflicts within the organization. Anybody was to be allowed to give his or her opinion on matters concerning the organization and each recommendation would be taken serious and put into consideration hence democracy was promoted.

These recommendations helped them to grapple with the challenges that faced them but as a matter of fact the problems were reduced a great deal.             In as much as the organization tried its best, they could still be faced by disagreements amongst them and also the government. They wanted people and the government to accept that they could not adequately overcome poverty and social problems even in America due to lack of enough resources and since even in the political arena, poor and needy people support is not one of the priorities. so they actually wanted to change people’s view of the organization aiding the poor since some well wishers do not have enough trust in the organizations, they breed the idea that the NGOs are only out to misuse them and gain from their sweat. It is believed that if they had a positive view of the process aiding the needy then they could have opened their heart wide enough to continue funding the organization because without fund then the organization is at a standstill.

It becomes dangerous for the organization to react to an emergency when it has no money. The organization also so it best to create awareness that addressing community’s needs is not only the government’s job and the Ngos but it is everyone’s responsibility to actively participate in bringing back the hopeless to life because people in a society are expected to live in harmony and unity. They also wanted to get a way of increasing resources  through increased private funding, introducing new faith secular relationships i.

e. private funders and potential faith-based recipients of such funding adopting common standards and principles of receiving funds an besides looking for possible ways, they were expected to be transparent to potential providers so gain more trust. Nonetheless, the organization stipulated a policy which would recognize many religious characteristics of faith-based organizations so as to clarify on the rules governing charitable organizations and also to enhance collaboration between the government and community based groups to ensure consistency and sufficiency in the duties of the organization.

However they wanted the organization especially faith –based to have rights and power to make its own decision without any interference by any other organization and also the government. So the above recommendations that have been discussed above were the only possible ways to help the Christian and secular based organization in the U.S to move forward to help lots of needy people both in America and overseas (Robert  112).Structure of the Religious and Secular Organization            The organization was made up two bodies of which one was secular based organization which was a non religious organization and another none was the religious based organization which was commonly referred to as the faith-based organization that actually tried to use religious laws to carry out the volunteer work (Christopher 37).            Each organization was assigned responsibility so as to avoid any difference that would arise, although they worked under the same umbrella of the Us –Based Private Voluntary Organization: Religious and Secular Provs Engauged in International Relief and Development. To start with is the religious freedom for faith Based Organization: They ensure that every activity is carried out in a religious manner so that there is equality and spirit of Christianity is portrayed to encourage the philanthropists and other willing organizations to willingly fund the organization.

Apart from distributing the relief food they were also to give spiritual guidance and counseling to the victims since they might have undergone traumatizing moments for example victims of war could really need some consolation and counseling sessions and it is this that could restore them back to normal.            The Christian based organization also had the responsibility of encouraging the victims to seek God’s mercies in order to be protected from any problems that could befall them. The secular based organization was assigned with the main work of mobilizing found from other institutions and the government as a whole and they were also to liaise with the government to give both financial and political support such that the plight of the poor needy in the society are considered and fought for.Their Programmes            The organization groups themselves and delegate duties to each other then it is upon a group to organize their activities independently as long as they go by the stipulated rules of the organization. In groups they identify a leader who guides them on what activities to conduct. The groups then are sent to various countries such that they are always available in case of any disaster and some are distributed within the country since it is an international NGO.

            The groups then create awareness and mobilize people to form small manageable groups so that they are helped through a registered group.e.g registered children’s homes.

This is mainly to ensure that only the needy get the relief food and any other requirement, also to promote justice such that only the needy benefit from the NGOs.            They also organize themselves in such a way that there are those assigned specifically to mobilize funds from the well wishers, both individuals and institutions. Their work is also to form strategies on how to ensure there are enough resources. This is done by opening accounts, websites and even liaising with the government to help in funding the organization. Besides they encourage donations of food staffs from all corners of the world whereby people drop the food staffs in specified places like supermarkets.The organization also aid in the development programmes, this conducted by members who are appointed as a committee to oversee the projects.

It maybe rebuilding of destroyed houses or raising a rehabilitation center .So the committee is responsible for funding it and thereafter gives an account of the funds used.            The organization as much as it offers relief and development aid they create other activities or rather free services to the victims so that they are not only fed but also counseled and guided and at the same time encouraged.

NGOs in general does a lot of volunteer work to help the poor needy and those that are affected by a calamity .It is recognized worldwide that they have really contributed a lot for the wellbeing of the society, for example CARE International, has played a big role in helping the poor and needy hence have improved the living conditions of individuals. Many non -profit organizations have established schools, initiated projects which benefit those unable to afford education. Besides they have created jobs for the jobless. With emergence of many NGOs, war against poverty and some diseases have almost succeeded, especially HIV/AIDS. Lot of victims have survived because of the existence of the non-profit organizations who have volunteered to bear the burden of maintaining their health. Although at times the NGOs face challenges of lack of enough resources they however try as much as possible not to have the crisis of funds and that is why the above discussed recommendations are proposed to enable them survive in future.
