My topic is the life of Vincent Van Gogh. I will be working by myself. I am thinking about doing an exhibit for my project.
Vincent van Gogh was born on March 30,1853. His mother and father are Anna Cornelia Carbentus and Theodorus Van Gogh. An exact year before he was born his mother gave birth to a still born who was also named Vincent but sadly died. On account of them both having the exact same birthday it was like he was a “replacement child” which in other terms is a “ghost child.”Van Gogh was the eldest of five children and during that time he has been to many schools growing up. He went to a local elementary school in 1860, then the following year later he became homeschooled for 2 years.
After that, another year later he was sent to a boarding school in Zevenbergen. In 1866, he attended Willem II College in Tilburg. He is a well known artist who has had very many mental illnesses.
His first art piece work was created in 1881 at the age of 27, called “The Sower” which was made with pen and watercolor on a piece of paper. Due to poor financial struggles, Van Gogh lacked the set of tools he needed for art. A year later with the help from his brother Thomas, he began painting with oils that he was able to afford in 1882. “I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process.
” Vincent Van Gogh suffered with depression and psychotic episodes during the last two years of his life. Van Gogh died on July 29, 1890, in France. The cause of his death was suicide, which include many theories of why he committed suicide but nobody knows the true reason. Henri Gastaut is a researcher who studied Van Gogh’s life to get a better understanding of what happened to Van Gogh. According to Gastaut, “Van Gogh’s physical feature and early temperamental changes he suggested that Van Gogh must have suffered from an early brain damage.” “I wish they would only take me as I am” Van Gogh has had many jobs before becoming and artist but all had failed. He had gotten first job being a trainee with and art dealership at the age of 16. He worked in firm’s in the London and Paris offices but was fired in 1876.
Afterwards, he was a school teacher for a brief amount of time then later on worked at a book store in the Netherlands. In 1878, he became a preacher and worked among the poor in Borinage, Belgium. He had given away all his stuff and slept on floors. Less than a year later the religious organization that sponsored Van Gogh decided that he “.
..wasn’t cut out to be a pastor and dismissed him.” His last career choice was to become a famous artist but unfortunately him and his artwork didn’t become famous until after his death. Van Gogh only sold one piece of art during his short life time.
After his death, Van Gogh’s art pieces came to life, with the help of his sister (put name here). Most of Van Gogh’s work displays the emotional barriers he faced with his mental illness. The famous Starry Night was priced amoung (another art) was auctioned as the most expensive art pieces ever sold. The wealth was passed onto his sister until she died passing it onto her son who shares the families famous name Vincent.
Later on in the years a Museum was built in Vincent Van Gogh memorial cherishing most of his master pieces. In February 1886, after living with his favorite brother Theo in Paris, Van Gogh moved to a town in Southern France where he wanted to form a “community of artists”. Van Gogh asked Paul Gauguin to live with him, whom he had met in Paris. Van Gogh’s either Theo basically bribed Paul Gauguin to become his brother roommate arrived in the fall of 1888. Van Gogh and Gauguin eventually became friends but one night on December 23, 1888, they got into a fight and Gauguin moved out. Van Gogh followed Gauguin into the streets and instead on attacking Gauguin, Van Gogh went back into his home and cut his ear lobe off and wrapped it up into a piece of newspaper and gave it to a prostitute. Another theory is that Gauguin is the one who cut of Van Gogh’s ear lobe when they were fighting, but Van Gogh lied and had said that he cut his own ear lobe off to save Gauguin from going to jail and hoped to save Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin’s friendship.
Van Gogh checked himself into a mental hospital called Saint Paul de Mausole. Van Gogh was diagnosed with epilepsy at the time as well as bipolar disorders, alcoholism, and acute intermittent porphyria. Because of all his mental illnesses, his main treatments were long baths. He spent a year at the mental hospital and during that time he had painted 100 paintings of Gardens and his surroundings.Van Gogh had never married or had any children, he sucked at the love life role.
When he first started out as an artist in the 1880s he had fallen in love with his widowed cousin named Kee Vos-Stricker. His cousin and love of his life and no interest in him whatsoever and rejected him many times but that didn’t stop him from trying. His parents weren’t too thrilled about his choice in his career and was definitely not thrilled about his love life with cousin. Van Gogh has three other relationships after her but of course either his family didn’t approve of it or the romance just died.
In July 1890 Van Gogh woke up ate breakfast and took off from the Inn and didn’t return for 12 hours. The Ravoux family
