How We View School Bullying in America Essay
School bullying needs to stop because too many young adults are taking their own lives due to the fact that they can’t deal with the pain of being bullied.
I feel that this issue needs to be resolved, because no one deserves to feel so badly about themselves to the point where they feel their not important enough or good enough to live a long healthy life. School bullying is a known type of bullying and it always occurs with education, and it can occur in or out of school. It can be emotional, verbal, or physical and when a person is being bullied or the person doing the bullying it’s usually repeated over a period of time.Bullying in schools normally consists of a group of students who tend to take advantage of one student in particular and while doing this they tend to get loyalty of other children whom are witnessing these acts being done, because those watching want to avoid becoming the next victim. Bullies are known to begin to taunt and consistently tease the person they want to target. Those type of students that are targeted in bullying are usually those known to be different than the other students in the school, while being bullied makes their situation more difficult for them to deal with in their life both in school as well as outside of school. There are many different types of bullying and they consist of physical bullying, emotional bullying, verbal bullying, cyber-bullying, sexual bullying, homophobic bullying, and also high school bullying. A person that has been bullied most of their school years tend to become depressed, having insecurity of themselves, lack of trust for others, having anger issues, and some even think about suicide.
Bullies can be both sexes, they are usually pressured by their peers, and feel that they should in some way have to impress their other students, and by doing so they hurt other children to make themselves look better. You can usually figure out whom are being bullied just by the way they act, these types are usually sensitive, quiet, and are sometimes withdrawn from others. There are many bullies in schools that know they are bullying others, and then there are some children whom say they don’t like it when they see other people being bullied but yet they are bullies themselves. A lot of students say things about or to other students that may hurt that person in many ways. They themselves say that they’re not bullies, even though they are.
I feel students deserve to feel safe at school, and that these bullies should be held responsible for their behavior. This doesn’t only affect those being bullied but also those witnessing their peers being bullied, it makes them feel unsafe. I also feel that bullying is a very important topic in our schools and we need to give it more attention.
I have three teenagers, and just this year alone they’ve had two friends commit suicide due to the fact that they were being bullied. It’s sad to say that some people don’t find it important enough to try and make a change. We as parents’ should take a stand for our children and put a stop this type of behavior. Our children count on us to keep us safe in this world and what kind of example would we be setting if we just let this go on? There are as I feel many teachers and school officials who may see a situation of this type in a different manner than we do. For example; say a child is walking down the hall at school and another student says to another student “Eww that girl smelled bad today in PE.
That is being a bully, but that person saying it may not think it’s considered bullying and the teacher may also feel the same if they were to overhear it. The teachers may just see it as the say kids just being kids, and that’s not how it should be addressed. Those students whom are saying and doing things to hurt others should be punished for their actions.
If this would happen I believe that the bullying rate would decrease overtime. It’s amazing that I decided to write about this topic, because as I am writing my essay, I got a call from my son.He is attending PTI college in Pittsburgh. He asked me if I was busy and if I could talk to him, I always have time for my children no matter what time of the day or night it may be.
He had called me to inform me that I would be receiving a bill from the hospital, and I asked “Why? ” and he says that he got beat up by four guys at a party. That immediately made me so upset, why would someone want to do this to my son? Would like to share with you that my son is gay and this is the reason they beat him up.I find this situation to be very upsetting, not just because of the fact that he is my son but also because just because someone is different from you doesn’t give you the right to harm them in anyway. My son has four stitches in his head and both of his jaws are swollen just because he’s different. I am so saddened that he had to go through this situation alone. I want to go there and just make them realize that what they did to my son is so wrong, and this is a prime example of what I had said earlier in the essay about it not nly affecting the ones being bullied but also those around them, because I am torn apart at this moment, I am crying because I am saddened that someone would do this to my son or to anyone else for that matter.
Just because a person is different doesn’t give you the right to show violence or verbal abuse towards them. Stop bullying today and teach your children that bullying someone is wrong and unacceptable and there will be serious punishments. Help make schools a safer place for our children and put a stop to bullying across America.
