I was just a teenage about 15 at the time and I was sitting in the floor watching the evening news and the President Reagan was speaking in front of the  I believe it was the Brandenburg Gate all of a sudden in the midst of his speech  I heard “Mr. Gorbachev Tear down that wall”1.*General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!I stopped doing my homework and thought what a wonderful thing it would be if there were no more Berlin wall People, who had not seen their family for years becoming reunited.It was an exciting time. After years of the cold war, worrying about Russia hitting us with a nuclear bomb the two most powerful countries in the world was looking at each other as possible friends.

Conceived by the East German administration of Walter Ulbricht and approved by Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev the wall was a long separation barrier between West Berlin and East Germany, which closed the border between east and West Berlin for a period of 28 years.I remember watching not to long after President Reagan asked Mr. Gorbachev to tear down the Wall it happened right before the worlds eye’s on the television. Exactly one month before my oldest daughters 1st birthday,  I cried with joy watching people pull brick by brick from that wall and seeing family who had not seen each other for nearly 30 years reunited it was heart wrenching joy.In this country we are so lucky I also remember the seeing the consequences of those who were caught trying to climb over that forsaken wall. Let us just say they never saw joy.3.* The wall had originally been erected by East Germany to prevent its citizens from defecting to the West.
