Cyber Space a Burden or a Blessing Essay
The articles “Welcome to Cyberia” (Kadi, 1994) and “Cyberspace: if you don’t Love it leave it” (Dyson, 1995), both discuss cyberspace flaws and its benefits and if it should be controlled or not.
Kadi(1994) in her article discusses about giving cyberspace a reality check in different aspects she explains that cyberspace is a bad influence and has disconnected people from the real world, unlike the Dyson’s article which says that people get to use the cyberspace however they want and when they want also that the cyberspace is here to stay and has done a lot of good and there is nothing we can do about it Kadi sounded annoyed rather than convincing in her article and did not provide a lot of suitable examples to support her claim.Dyson on the other hand sounded very sure of her claim and very convincing and also supported her claim with various examples. In the article “Welcome to cyberia”, Kadi (1994) discuses about how the world needs a reality check when it comes to cyberspace but the article discusses mostly about the disadvantages of the cyberspace and how it has disconnected people from the world and is very misleading and addictive she uses the term cyber junkies for people who are addicted to cyberspace. The article describes how people prefer the world of cyberspace than the real world and gives an example of AOL (America online where people communicate with one another and joining different cliques depending on what they like. Dyson’s (1995) article discuses how the cyberspace is the only place where people are free from the government, the article also proposes that the answer to restricting some particular things such as porn etc is not labelling or banning those questionable materials. She uses the term real estate in the article to describe the cyber space users have the choice of picking what they want to do where they want to visit and what they want to see it is optional and she says that is how it is supposed to be without the government interfering. Dyson (1995) says in the article government control over all cyber electronic space communities is not what is needed, it is self control that the people need.
How Cyberspace affects our world today compared to the different articles.Cyberspace has influenced our world way more than Kadi (1994) mentioned in her article, in the same article she stated the highest cyber junkies spent on the web was thirty hours unlike this generation where thirty hours is little compared the amount of time people spend on the web now. In Kadi’s article it was quite difficult then to use the web because of the limited systems but that is not the case now people now can access the web very easily it has influenced us more now than in kadi’s article.Cyberspace has affected our world in every way Dyson stated in her article. Cyberspace is something we cannot live without now it has become part of our existence, people, she uses the term real estate to describe the cyberspace I is another world entirely a virtual world where people now tend to spend most of their time, Cyberspace is has become part of life and not everyone is pleased about it but Dyson (1995) states in her article “If you don’t love it leave it” (Para. 6).
The articles are of two different views Kadi’s (1994) article discuses about how the cyberspace has destroyed our connection with this world, and that people have become cyber junkies also that people need to either reduce the amount of time and money spent on cyberspace or even stop it. Dyson’s (1995) article discuses about how cyberspace has influenced the world and has come to stay and there is nothing people can do about it.She then explains with examples why the internet should not be banned, regulated or controlled by the government but the people. Dyson was very convincing and supported her ideas with various example and terms such as real estate, community Example here. Kadi was more annoyed than convincing and did not provide suitable examples to support her ideas Dyson’s audience would be far more understanding and convinced than Kadi’s audience. The authors conclude their articles in different ways Kadi (1994) concludes her article in a more Disappointing approach using herself as a point of view of how cyberspace has affected her, and how people should learn from her experience she says cyberspace is in complete opposition to our existence she points out that diversity and creates likeminded people, and people do not communicate anymore, She also believes that the use of electronic forms as a method of communication devalues the way we communicate and see communication to be.Dyson concludes her article with a simple summary of her article by pointing out that the community does not need any government restrictions, people are responsible for how they use the cyberspace Dyson (1995) points out that the community just needs to grow up and get matured which means there are no government safe havens and no all purpose solutions the society on earth and cyberspace are not perfect but in cyberspace people get to make individual choices. Cyberspace is a virtual world with millions of users, it has become a necessity in life something we cannot live without.
Cyberspace has become more compulsory over the years people use the cyberspace for different reasons this reasons which vary from good to bad has been talked about in the different articles by Kadi and Dyson. Kadis article points out that people get addicted to it and the they are not enlightened by it because people end up interacting with likeminded people because of how vast the cyberspace is there is not enough time to go through everything so people become very selective and tend to connect with likeminded people. She also points out that there is no evidence of diversity in cyberspace and that people should try and quit using cyberspace because of its cost , being addictive and in opposition to human existence but at the time this article was written cyberspace was limited. Cyberspace has now become something we cannot live without it s available and very easy to access, the audience Kadi was addressing in her article is not the same audience now.
Dyson on the overhand points out that cyberspace is here to stay and there is nothing we can do about it. Dyson explains why the cyberspace should not be censored restricted or controlled by the government , cyberspace is the only place where people do not have to answer to the government Dyson uses real estate to describe the cyberspace people should be allowed to go to where they want to and not where the government directs them to.The people should be responsible for how they use the cyberspace and the only solution is on the part of the society. The society just needs to grow up and get matured which means there are no government safe havens and no all purpose solutions the society on earth and cyberspace are not perfect but in cyberspace people get to make individual choices. The audience which Duson addresses would be convinced because of the examples and facts she gives to support her statement.
