Tom’s chief properties consist of being a strong jock and holding a beastly personality. Besides. he lives in East Egg which contains people that have old money. He attended Yale and ne’er had to make much work when he was younger due to this wealth. He shows his money off by purchasing excessive things for him to demo off to others. He is a cold-hearted. shallow adult male who doesn’t truly care about what happens to others. Tom’s careless nature gets illustrated when he “Smashed up things and animals and so retreated back into money.

” ( Fitzgerald 187 ) He likes Daisy non for true love but instead for a possession-type relationship. He cheats on her and is proud of that and doesn’t strive for her love because he knows his wealth will maintain her with him. When with Daisy.

he seldom acts romantic as he ever is preoccupied with his greed. His realistic attack to life causes him to be seldom defeated. As a reader can see. Tom has his ain set of alone features differing from those of Gatsby.

Gatsby differs from Tom in many ways. First his attributes consists of a passionate and sort personality. For illustration. he lets people he has ne’er meet before attend parties at his house. Gatsby lives in West egg which contains people who have new money.

He came from a hapless household. “his parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people. ” ( Fitzgerald 104 ) from North Dakota and struggled with obtaining adequate money to do it through college.

He is a loyal and charitable adult male who loves Daisy and truly wants her true love. He is willing to make whatever it takes to win her love. Her love becomes one of the premier grounds he desires to be rich. Gatsby considers Daisy so cherished to him that she frequently gets referred to as the Holy Grail.He tries to win her by holding “committed himself to the followers of a grail” ( Fitzgerald 156 ) and merely loving her.

However. Daisy cares entirely about net-wealth and hence. chooses Tom. Throughout the novel. Gatsby shows how he is a romantic dreamer by ever woolgathering of Daisy genuinely falling for him. His unrealistic attack to life causes him to be frequently defeated.

While talking to Daisy. Gatsby one time cried. ‘”Can’t repetition the yesteryear? ’ ‘Why of class you can! ‘” ( Fitzgerald 116 ) . This shows his unrealistic attitude as the fortunes of Daisy’s and his relationship has changed and will ne’er be like it one time was. For illustration. he believes that he really might be able to win her love when he truly as no opportunity with her. Gatsby differs from Tom in many ways.
