Dr. Tien was born in Wuhan, China and was educated in Shanghai and Taiwan. He completed his undergraduate instruction at the National Taiwan University. He so came to the United States in 1956, where he earned a Masterss degree at the University of Louisville in 1957. He so earned a 2nd grade and a doctor’s degree at Princeton University in 1959. Both he and his married woman are naturalized citizens. They have three kids and two grandchildren. All of their kids are physicians.
