Background and History Karl marx in full Karl Heinrich Marx was one of the nine children born to Heinrich Marx and Henrietta Pressburg on May 5, 1818 in Prussia. Karl Marx grew up with his 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Karl marx’s father Heinrich Marx, was a lawyer, and his mother Henrietta Pressburg was a Dutch Woman. Both of Marx’s parents were jewish and were descendants of long line of rabbis. Marx attended elementary school of lutheran for a short while but later became an atheist. One karl’s famous sayings are “Religion is the opium of the people”. Although both of marx’s parents were descendants of rabbis his father converted to christianity in 1816 at the age of 35.

Marx’s father converted to christianity most likely due to an 1815 law banning jews from high society. Marx was baptized at the age of 6 along with his siblings where his other waited until 1825, around the time his father died. Marx was homeschooled till the age of 12 and then spent 5 years(1830 to 18350) at the jesuit high school in trier. Education Karl marx began studying at the university of bonn in october of 1835. Marx enjoyed the lively and rebellious culturel of the university and took part in student life. although marx only went there for 2 semesters he got in a lot of trouble, he was arrested for getting drunk and disturbing others, also, he arpisipited in a duel. After 2 semesters marx’s father enrolled him into a different university, a university with a more serious environment, into university of berlin.

Marx studied law and philosophy and was also introduced to philosophy of G.W.F. Hegel, who was a professor at berlin until his death (1831). Marx did not particularly like Hegel, but soon became involved with Young Hegelians, a group of students including Bruno Bauer and Ludwig Feuerbach.

Maex became more politically zealous in 1836 and was engaged in secret to Jenny Von Westphalen, a women from a respected family and was four years older than him. Since the engagement was a secret from even his parents his father was very worried about him after he found out. His father wrote him series of letters expressing his concern for him he was particularly worried about his engagement because his wife-to-be come from a higher class than theirs.Marx got his doctorate from university of Jena in 1841, but his radical politics prevented him from becoming a teacher.

Him not becoming a teacher led him to start working as a journalist, in 1842 he became the editor of Rheinische Zeitung, a liberal newspaper in Cologne.The communist manifesto The communist manifesto is a brief publication that declares the arguments and platform of the communist party (study.com). In 1848 karl marx and Friedrich Engels laid out their concept of socialism in their most famous work The communist manifesto. In their writing they championed the worker and advocated the classless society that dissolve between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. The communist manifesto is not only marx’s muturing from a philosopher and economist into a revolutionary and an activist.

The Communist Manifesto has four chapters, Bourgeois and Proletarians, Proletarians and Communists, Socialist and Communist Literature, and Position of the Communists in Relation to Various Opposition Parties. In Bourgeois and Proletarians, Karl Marx states one on his famous lines “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles”. Marx also talks about how the system always clashes with the class system and should be replaced by communism, a society without class conflict and distinction. Proletarians and Communists, in this chapter relationship between the communist party and other working parties is explained. This chapter also proclaims the intention of the party to focus on interests as a whole not in particular group. Socialist and Communist Literature, in this chapter Marx presented three subset of Socialists and Communist literature: reactionary socialism, bourgeois socialism, and critical-socialism.
