Another learning style as a reflector (considers

Anotherinteresting aspect of the course was group work. This offered an immediateopportunity to put learning to practice and to learn from viewpoints of others. My challenge was that, my learning style as a reflector (considers differentperspective before acting) according to Honey and Mumford (1989) often saw meas quiet and through feedback, I realised I appeared laid back at times. I struggledwith dominant personalities within group work because I felt intimidated thoughI feel this has equipped and increased my confidence during my 2nd placementwhen dealing with diverse professionals.

I also feel more confident challengingprofessional views as evidenced in Blog 5 paragraph 11 and bog 2 paragraph 7. Ialso enjoyed the XBX involvement in our learning because part of my learningstyle according to Neil Flemings (1987) VARK model is Auditory and Kinaestheticwhich meant that I learn better by listening to people share experiences andalso through active exploration. I evidence this throughout my blogs. E.g. Blog1 paragraph 9.

Conclusion Throughmy reflection I have come to appreciate the need of frameworks such as HCPC andBASW (2015) in aiding effective practice.  I have been able to identify various stages ofin/competence in my learning such as my values and philosophies as UnconsciousIncompetence but through reflection, I can now identify that as my ConsciousCompetence. I have appreciated the relevance ofexperiential learning (Kolb 1984) such as XBX group sessions which has aided mydevelopment in a range of practice skills such as protecting and promotingpeoples interest (community Care (2010) (HCPC 2, 6, 9 and PCF 2 & 4)). Toensure continuous development, I endeavour to ‘micro and macro critique’everyday practice to reduce risks and professional dangerousness (Scragg andKnott, 2013).Iused Schon (1987)’s reflection in action and reflection on action because itallowed me to be critical of my feelings and thoughts during and after theincident.  However it meant I couldrecord things only from my perspective. In comparison to other models, I feltthat I could have benefited using Kolb (1984) Experiential learning because itsstructure prompts reflective questions on how previous learning has impactedthe experience.
