AIR legal and environmental meanings. It means
AIR POLLUTION THAT OCCURS AROUND US AFFECT THE HUMANKIND.
1. INTRODUCTION:As the population of the world increases, the release of the chemical substances is also increasing. Uncontrolled disposal of waste materials may result in environmental pollution.
Pollution is the collection of inappropriate materials to life in our environment. These inappropriate materials are called pollutants. Most of the pollution is caused by human activities. Therefore, people exposed to air pollution. Moreover, people has been increasing use of chemical substances such as spray, cleaning supplies, perfume and so on, so air pollution is becoming a serious problem. The term pollution has important legal and environmental meanings. It means that a person or business is not complying with environmental laws.
One type of air pollution is dangerous gases such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and other chemical vapors. Once these particles exposed to the atmosphere, they will follow the prevailing winds until they condense and fall to the ground as rain. This type of pollution can participate in more chemical reactions in the atmosphere, some of which form smog and acid rain. Another type of air pollution is particulate matter. The particles are pieces of matter usually carbon that very small which is about 2.
5 microns or about 0.0001 inches. The particulate matter are came from the exhaust from burning fuels in automobiles, trucks, airplanes, homes, and industries. This type of air pollution can harm young developing lungs and of course this will affect the human being totally.
Some of these particles can contain harmful metals. Most air pollution comes from burning fossil fuels for industrial processes, transportation, and energy use in homes and commercial buildings. Natural processes can emit regulated chemicals at times. Hence, this research are focus to find the best solution to overcome this problem so it will not affect the human and environment.
2. CAUSES:In today’s time, air pollution problem are getting worse. This epidemic is due to certain causes but the most contributing factor of all that leads to this problem is originated from the mankind itself. Mankind are to be blame because most of these air pollution problems occur due to the human’s irresponsible act. There are various factor of human’s irresponsible act to the nature. One of them are burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, natural gas, and gasoline.
The fossil fuel are burned to produce electricity and power our vehicles. When the fossil fuels are burned, the nitrogen oxides was released into the atmosphere . Then, it will contribute to the formation of smog and acid rain. Ammonia is also another nitrogen compound that emitted to the air.
The burning of fossil fuels actually associated with two aspects which are transportation and industry. For industry aspect, the factories need an energy source to power their production processes which is electricity. Usually electricity generated by fossil fuel burning, in particular coal. However, for transportation aspect majority of the transport emit air pollution from the combustion of liquid fossil fuel. Most transport sources today therefore emit similar pollutants which are are carbon dioxide and water vapour from the complete combustion of the fuel. Moreover, the next source are mining process. Mining operations like drilling, blasting, hauling, and collection are the major sources of emissions and air pollution. Mining is an industry that involves the exploration and removal of minerals from the earth.
All methods of mining affect air the quality. Dust and coal particles stirred up during the mining process, as well as soot released during coal transport, contributes to emissions. The deeper a mine, the more methane that contributes to global warming is generated. Besides, agricultural activity is also one of the source due to the air pollution. Agricultural activity is directly related to the production or processing of crops, dairy products, poultry, or livestock for initial commercial sale. It have been linked to the emission of other dangerous gases and pollutants. Ammonia is the mainly form of the emission.
It enters the air as a gas from livestock waste. It then combines with pollutants from combustion in vehicles, power plants and industrial processes. Agriculture also consumes fossil fuels for fertilizer production and farm operations, thus emitting carbon dioxide, sulfur oxides, and particulates. Hence, we need to find the effective solution to overcome these causes such as burning of fossil fuels openly, emission of harmful smoke from the transport and agriculture in order to maintain the sustainability of our surrounding air.3. EFFECTS:For years, it’s been understood that the effects of air pollution to humans are very serious. Air pollution is a problem which is bad for everyone in the long term. Various different types of harmful materials exist in air with variable prominence either indoors or outdoors.
The effect of air pollution can be divided into two aspect which are health and environmental. For the first aspect, as we know when we breathe the air that contained chemical substances, it may affect our health. The quality of the air we breathe affects the quality of our health. Air quality has an impact on the health of our lungs and the entire respiratory system. The inhalation of those pollutants may have harmful effects on the lungs and other organs of the body. The respiratory system is particularly sensitive to air pollutants. Once human inhaled the air pollutants, it will absorbed by the blood and transported to the heart which can give negative impacts to our health.
In addition, if the normal human being exposed to the air pollution in a long-term it will cause cancer and damage the body systems such as respiratory and reproductive system. Moreover, air pollution also can cause environmental effects. The most effect of air pollution to environmental is the formed of acid rain. Acid rain is precipitation containing harmful amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids. These acids usually fall to the earth as wet precipitation such as rain or fog. It will damages the plant and building that exposed to the acid rain such as trees, soils, sculptures and statues.
Furthermore, air pollution will cause to ozone depletion. Ozone is a gas that occurs in two level which are upper atmosphere and ground level. At ground level, ozone can harm human health. However, in the upper atmosphere level or we can called it as stratosphere, ozone act as the protector to human health as it forms a layer that protects every living things on earth from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Unfortunately, the using of man-made chemical such as coolants, foaming agents, fire extinguishers, pesticides, and aerosol propellants have cause the thinning of the ozone layer. This is because the chemical contains ozone depleting substance which is chlorofluorocarbons (CFC). When the ozone layer become thinner it means that the amount of ultraviolet radiation to reach the earth surface become higher.
Then it will lead to more diseases that will happen to the human such as cataracts and skin cancer. The final environmental effect is global warming. Greenhouse gases cause global warming by trapping heat from the Sun in the earth’s atmosphere. Greenhouse gases are a natural part of earth’s atmosphere, but in the last 150 years until now the amount of the gases in our atmosphere has increased. The increase comes from car exhaust, factories and power plants. The increase in greenhouses gases is the cause of most of the global warming that happened over the past century. Scientists predict that much more warming will likely happen during the next century.
These effects which are reduce the quality of human health, forms of acid rain, ozone depletion and global warming obviously will affect the well being of our environment.
